Ms. Gibson

Mrs. Avsar

     Ms. Gibson is the assistant in the library. Although this is her first year in the library, Ms. Gibson has been working at AMS for about three years.

     Ms. Gibson loves working in the library. When asked about working in the library, Ms. Gibson answered "I've loved books ever since I was little."

     Ms. Gibson's favorite part of working in the library is being able to suggest books to students.

Miss. Page

     Miss. Page is the new "strings" teacher at AMS. This is Ms. Page's first year of teaching.

     Before teaching at AMS, Ms. Page was a private tutor. Having  first learned to play piano, Ms. Page has been playing the violin for thirteen years.

     Miss. Page heard that AMS had a great "strings" program and wanted to be a part of the program as well.

     "The strings program is the best in the area, that's why I decided to teach here!"

     This school year Ashland Middle School has a new 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Avsar. Mrs. Avsar is the new float ELA teacher for the 8th grade.

     Mrs. Avsar transferred to AMS from a school in the country of Turkey.

     Mrs. Avsar is  excited about this school year, because, "it is my first year of teaching middle school!"

Ms. Reynolds

     Ms. Reynolds is the new teacher for the Explorers team at AMS. Ms. Reynolds taught for nine years at West Carter Middle School.

     Ms. Reynolds "really likes it" so far.

     "Ever since I was young, I loved learning about history and seeing historical places."

Ms. Wallin

     Ms. Wallin is the new librarian at Ashland Middle School.

     Ms. Wallin said, "I've always wanted to be a librarian!"

     Ms. Wallins has been part of Ashland Middle School for twenty four years as a 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher.

     Ms. Wallin's favorite thing about being a librarian is how she gets to "see all eight hundred kids in one week."

Mrs. Heyerly

     Ms. Heyerly is an 8th grade ELA teacher on the third floor.

Ms. Heyerly went to the Eastern Kentucky University to become the teacher she always wanted to be.

     "I can't remember a time where I didn't want to be a teacher."

     Ms. Heyerly favorite thing about being a teacher is seeing my student succeed.

Ms. Toplis

     Ms. Toplis is the eighth grade math teacher for the Dream Team at Ashland Middle School.

Ms. Toplis has been teaching at AMS for twelve years. She chose math after her highschool.

When asked why she chose to teach math, she said, "I enjoy the new challenge, and growing in my ability to teach."    

Mrs. Peterman

     Mrs. Peterman is the eighth grade algebra and math eight teacher for the Adventurer's Team.

     When asked why she loves teaching math, Mrs. Peterman replied, "I just love watching students learn new things."

     Mrs. Peterman, a Marshall University graduate, is in her twenty-first year of teaching.

     "I love working with all my fellow teachers."

Kaythan Baer

     Kaythan Baer, an 8th grade girls basketball player and student at AMS, was very successful in her first game at West Carter with 17 points.

     Kaythan was very successful against East Carter and Rowan County as well, as she scored a total of nineteen points in the two games.

     "Being out a year made me miss basketball even more and made me strive to be better," said Kaythan who suffered a torn ACL on the court toward  the end of the season last year.

     "I want to go to college and play basketball."
